Billy Joel Sings “Pour Some Sugar on Me” with Def Leppard’s Joe Elliot

During his Saturday concert in Detroit (7/9/2022), Billy Joel surprised fans with an unannounced rock star appearance. Joel, who is 73 years old, brought out Joe Elliot, 62 to perform the 1987 hit “Pour Some Sugar on Me,” which served as a preview for Def Leppard’s Sunday show.

The two stars’ previous duets were in 2019 at New York’s Madison Square Garden and in 2018, at Boston’s Fenway Park. Joel’s concert was postponed several times (it was originally scheduled for July 2020), and according to Detroit Free Press, the singer thanked his fans for keeping their tickets during the wait.

Def Leppard Is Currently on a Mega Tour

The British rock band is touring with Mötley Crüe, Poison, Joan Jett, and the Blackhearts. Def Leppard has a new album and uses the moment to promote it. However, the lead singer, Joe Elliot, said that he knew people went to live shows to hear what they already know, and not new songs they had never heard before. Therefore, the band decided they wouldn’t play more than two or three tracks from the new album.

The Mega Tour Was Set to Kick Off in 2020

Luckily, all it took was a bit of patience and the mega tour happened this July. However, Poison’s frontman, Bret Michaels was hospitalized in Nashville just before the band was set to perform and his bandmates had to break the news to the audience.

While all the bands rocked the stage, the “Piano Man” singer is currently on his Billy Joel in Concert tour through December. About performing at such an age, the singer shared: “I got old, I lost my hair. I was never a matinee idol, to begin with, and there I am onstage still doing the same job I was doing when I was 16.”
